Marc Morano, Executive Editor, Climate Depot Versus Daniel Weiss, Director for Climate Strategy, Center for American Progress ([email protected]) – Selected ABC News excerpts of highly contentious debate shout-fest: (Note: ABC News also hosted a February 15, 2010 debate between Morano and Weiss.)
Morano: Co2 is but one factor…Hundreds of factors influence global climate, to sit here and say it is Co2 (as the primary climate driver) is absurd. The movement has been proven to be sub-prime science.
Morano on Climategate Reviews: [Muir Russell review] did not even ask basic questions. They did not even ask [Climategate’s] Phil Jones whether he had deleted any emails.
Two universities (University of East Anglia and Penn State U.) commissioned studies and exonerated themselves — that is not a shocker. For [Dan Weiss] to use it as proof of exoneration is laughable.
Morano: We have people in the UK saying we should have managed recessions to keep our emissions down. …I hope emissions go up, we need more economic recovery and that is a byproduct of growth.
Morano on Congressional Climate Bill: It’s about money. Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin (MD) has called cap-and-trade the greatest revenue generating proposal of our time. They just can’t wait to get their hands on the money…Even Obama’s own EPA admitted [the climate bill] would not even impact global co2 levels, it is a giant climate con, pure symbolism.
Morano on funding: The U.S. National Academy of Sciences took nearly $6 million dollars from Congress and under its president Ralph Cicerone is now lobbying for a cap-and-trade bill. They are almost entirely dependent on government – they have got to go with politically correct science view. The National Academy of Sciences — the ‘esteemed’ group — is now accepting money and disgracefully lobbying for a cap and trade bill. This is what has become of our science bodies in Washington DC. They are dependent on the funding and the politicians that support it. This is not science. This is a manufactured scare issue. All of these (international) National Academies of Sciences are tied in closely with governments. This is not surprising that [man-made global warming] is the science du jour; they all jump on the bandwagon.
We had overpopulation fears in the 1970’s which have turned out laughable. During the 1970s global cooling scare, the CIA was warning about disasters and national security threats from man-made global cooling. Different eco-scare, same solutions — that climate con has been exposed. (Note: The UN is already moving on to the next eco-scare: ‘IPCC for nature’ proposed — ‘Biodiversity crisis…International body to monitor destruction of flora and fauna’ — On ‘equal footing’ with climate)
Weiss: There are still a few (scientific) outliers who disagree — just like I am sure you can find scientists who think that tobacco doesn’t cause smoking. (sic)
Morano: Chinese scientists in the journal Geophysical Research Letters (GRL) just came out and said we are not in an unusually warm period. A Review in Science magazine in 2007 said the 20th century wasn’t anomalously warm. We are talking tenths of a degree. We are talking about coming out of the Little Ice Age. (Note: The Science Mag. analysis was in 2006)
Morano: Sea level is not rising (not showing acceleration – it has been rising since end of last ice age). The Antarctic, the arctic — across the board A-Z — there is nothing you can point to that shows CO2. The entire global warming scare is based on computer models that violate the basic principles of forecasting…These (warming) predictions are made to be laughed at. And all of these predictions are based on climate models the UN says are not even predictions, they are merely story lines based on emissions scenarios and they violate the basic principles of forecasting.
All Dan [Weiss] has are a bunch of scary predictions of the future which aren’t working anymore. More people believe in haunted houses than man-made global warming. Science is winning in the end here.
Morano: Carbon based energy is one of the greatest liberators of mankind. Solar panels on huts made of dung in Africa are not going to cut it. Coal fired power is a life liberator in the developing world, we should not be afraid of it.
The Japanese government is now telling its citizens to go to bed an hour early to prevent global warming. [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi is saying we need a complete inventory on every aspect of our lives (to battle global warming). The UN chief is saying we can no longer have ice water in restaurants. Across the board, we are finding out that this is about social engineering, lifestyle controls, it has never been about the science. The con is ending. Morano: [NASA’s] James Hansen, endorsed a book calling for deindustrialization of the United States – [a book calling] for bombing cities. We have a man at NASA (Hansen) who is a wannabe Unabomber, a potential terrorist. (Note: To be precise, the book Hansen endorsed – “Matter of Scale” — calls for “razing cities” and “blowing up dams”. Weiss: The record amount of snow we got in Washington DC and the Northeast is consistent with what scientists tell us will occur in Northeast…I was on MSNBC with Marc in January where he was citing the huge winter storms as evidence that there is no such thing as global warming.
Morano Counter: Go back and check the (MSNBC) transcript. I said they (snowstorms) were meaningless. We are at the point now where anything that happens can be blamed on global warming.

[Final Note: Weiss repeatedly alleged skeptics were claiming a grand “conspiracy” among the man-made global warming establishment. The reality is they are guilty of “corruption”, “collusion” and good old-fashioned “groupthink.” Enron (which boasted “the smartest guys in the room”) and the Wall Street banking collapse are other good examples of corruption, collusion and groupthink. The UN IPCC and the National Academies of Science and other organs of the global warming establishment are guilty of groupthink in support of the man-made global warming grand narrative. UN IPCC chief Pachauri said in 2007: “I hope that the [IPCC] report will shock people, governments into taking more serious action.” As Professor Roger Pielke Jr. once observed about the UN IPCC’s activist role: “Imagine, by contrast, if the Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, another organization with an agenda to be ‘policy neutral,’ were reported in the media to say of the agency’s latest assessment on Iran, ‘I hope that the report will shock people, governments into taking more serious action.'” Quite simply, the man-made global warming ‘consensus’ and ‘science’ has proven to be the best science that politics and activists could manufacture.]
