Who elected Bill Gates? Which voters, in which countries, approved these measures?
A week from today, on January 25, while citizens of much of the world will be enduring COVID-19 restrictions, Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, and Narendra Modi will apparently gather in the Netherlands.
There, along with Bill Gates, UN head Antonio Guterres, and personnel associated with the European Union, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, they’ll attend a climate summit hosted by the Global Center on Adaptation.
Because, you know, what the world needs right now is more anxiety. In the form of yet another climate conference. Which will release yet another climate report. Which will foist upon us yet another Youth Declaration in which young people describe their fear and alarm.
The chutzpah is astonishing. The global economy is in tatters. Billions face an uncertain future. Health care workers are exhausted. Yet this Clique of Self-Important People™ is full speed ahead, determined to impose its climate vision on the rest of us.
We’re told this summit
“will launch a comprehensive Adaptation Action Agenda to kick start a transformational decade.” [bold added]
It doesn’t occur to this Clique of Self-Important People™ that ordinary folk have experienced enough transformational change, thank you. It doesn’t occur to this Clique of Self-Important People™ that they have no democratic mandate to launch any manner of international agenda. Who elected Bill Gates? Which voters, in which countries, approved these measures?
We’re told the summit will release a statement endorsed by “2,500 scientists from more than 130 countries,” that will call on
“world leaders, decision-makers and investors to change the way we understand, plan and invest for a changing climate to ensure we limit future damage.” [bold added]
If limiting damage is the goal, where were those thousands of scientists a year ago? Why didn’t they do something useful, such as urge world leaders to shut down air travel pronto before China’s deadly virus spread to every corner of the planet?
ADDITIONAL INFO:
- It’s unclear which participants will attend the summit in person, and which will attend virtually. The media release is coy on that matter. As of this writing, so is the event website.
