Steve Doocy interviews Marc Morano

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

Steve Doocy: The New York Times” is highlighting a story urging the United States forecast to spend 100 million bucks researching solar geoengineering technology which effectively blocks or dims the sun as a way to combat global warming. Does that idea sound familiar?

Simpsons Video Clip: Since the beginning of time man has yearned to destroy the sun. I will do the next best thing block it out O.

Steve Doocy: But that’s just a cartoon, isn’t it? Let’s bring in Marc Morano the executive director at ClimateDepot.com. So, Marc was Monty Burns right all along to combat this thing we need to somehow block out the sun?

Marc Morano: Well, according to the best and brightest we have today including from Harvard, he seems to be right. This is a redo of the 1970s. Before fossil fuels caused global warming, fossil fuels caused global cooling and the ice age in the 1970s!

They were worried that our fossil fuel pollution was blocking out the sun creating global dimming and the next ice age and they wanted to put black soot on the artic to melt the ice. They suggested using nuclear energy to melt ice. So they were trying to geoengineer the climate back in the 1970s and here we have come full circle now trying to do it the other way by essentially cooling the planet instead of trying to warm it.

Steve Doocy: Global cooling, global dimming, global warming your head start spinning. Ultimately you see this as a way to lobby for, wait for it, the Green New Deal.

Marc Morano: Yes. If you read this “New York Times” article and see who is behind it people like Bill Gates is behind this solar engineering they say we need “substantial funding.’ First of all The National Academy of Sciences which approved this,  is literally almost 100 percent dependent on government funding and has gotten involved in lobbying for science projects in the past. The NAS is a quasi-political organization. That’s number one.

Number two, all throughout this they are saying this solar geoengineering proposal is so radical, so risky we don’t know the side effects but, mankind isn’t reducing our emissions enough. ‘We are being forced to do this risky radical experiment on our planet’ and so the implication is if we would only reduce our emissions, ‘We need to embrace the Green New Deal. We need to embrace it so we cannot alter and dangerously experiment with our planet.’

Steve Doocy: Well, let’s see what they do. It is an unusual idea from a cartoon. Marc Morano, it must not be too bad because I hear the birds chirping from your live location out there.

Marc Morano: That’s right. We don’t know if they will still be chirping after they try to geo-engineer the sun. You know, Bill Gates, some people are terrified to think of him as their doctor. But think of Bill Gates controlling Mother Nature. That may be scarier. Bill Gates is a big funder of this as well.

Steve Doocy: Marc, thank you very much.

Marc Morano: Thank you, Steve.

Book excerpt:

We’re in luck! Geoengineering solves both global cooling AND global warming.

Newsweek noted that one of the “more spectacular solutions proposed” for the coming ice age was “melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers.” A similar “solution” was also suggested by Leonard Nimoy in a 1978 episode of In Search Of…. The man who played Spock presented other such “solutions” for global cooling, including using nuclear energy to “loosen polar ice caps” or blanketing the ice caps in soot to help melt them.

Fast forward to the modern climate change debate, and the same type of ideas are being offered. In 2018, the idea of geoengineering the Earth or its atmosphere was proposed to fight “global warming.” A 2018 headline in the UK Independent blared: “First Ever Sun-Dimming Experiment Will Mimic Volcanic Eruption in Attempt to Reverse Global Warming.”

The article explained, “Plans to geoengineer the atmosphere by blocking out sunlight have been floated before, but an experiment launched next year by Harvard researchers will be the first to test the theory in the stratosphere.” Research team member David Keith boasted, “If solar geoengineering is as good as what is shown in these models, it would be crazy not to take it seriously.” The experiment “has been partly funded by Bill Gates of Microsoft.”

In 2009, Obama White House science advisor John Holdren suggested that we inject pollutants into the atmosphere to cool the planet and cancel out the warming impacts of pollution. As Keith reported, “Holdren told the Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays….‘It’s got to be looked at,’ Holdren said. ‘We don’t have the luxury of taking any approach off the table.’”
